Christmas Time…

I hope you’ve had a wonderful Christmas! We’ve had a busy one, offset with days in bed ill beforehand, then my little sister’s wedding and of course all the Christmas prep. We have eaten far too much and drunk even more!

My parents were very impressed with and happy with their present. Here it is leaning on their fireplace in their lounge:

I was a bit too busy to take a photo of the finished stained glass before wrapping it up for them, so I’m afraid this is the best I’ve got! Hopefully they will put it up somewhere and I’ll take a photo of it in situ and will share it with you then.

My parents have been asking me for years what I want for Christmas. I only asked for something little originally as it is an expensive time with my sister’s wedding, but got told to let them know about something bigger. Well, this is what I got:

Hobbycraft had it on offer a while ago (£15 off!) so I passed the details on. I had to explain to everyone there what it is, but I am quite excited about playing with it properly when at home.

What did you get? Anything crafty?

My parents no longer live where I grew up. They not only live in a different house, but a different town, well, county even! When they downsized and moved they got rid of a lot of stuff, but they did keep some bits. This is on the wall in their spare room:

My parents started collecting blue and white china in the 90s. I did this sampler for my Mum’s birthday in 1994. It used to live in the dining room in our old house, but as their spare room has a blue theme they put it up in the spare room when they moved. I now wake up and see this every morning when staying with them. It’s quite a simple piece, but reasonably impressive and fits well with their likes. I think this will be my oldest make I will ever show you as I was only 14 when I made it. I hope you like it!

WIP – Baby Sampler – Almost There!

I’ve managed to finish all the cross stitch on the baby sampler which I have been working on for weeks now!

Just backstitch to go now. I always find that it can make quite a difference to how something looks, even if some look lovely without it, they look even better afterwards!

WIP – Baby Sampler – Still Going!

I posted a photo of my WIP on May 27th. That’s over two weeks ago, and I’m still not there! I had hoped to be finished at the end of half term, but I was too busy (and distracted by smaller projects).
I’ve still got some crosses, then lots of blackstitch to do before finishing, but I am starting to get somewhere!

This is it’s current state…

WIP – Baby Sampler – The Beginnings!

After a few weeks of making bits for me, it’s time to go back to making bits for other people. My current WIP is a baby A-Z for friends due to produce their first child just as we leave the country for a longish holiday. I won’t be able to do anything when the baby appears so I’m making something unisex in advance. What with all the sunshine atm progress is slow. This is where I’m up to…

Last night we went out and I wore my zebra necklace and crochet handbag. It’s quite satisfying wearing or using stuff you’ve made. It was made even better by the barmaid in one pub we went to commenting “oh, that’s a nice bag”.

Mr and Mrs – A Modern Cross Stitch Wedding Sampler

Ideally today Mr M and I would currently be enjoying the sunshine in the Lake District, celebrating the wedding of a couple of our friends. Those in the UK will be aware that the last Monday in May is usually a bank holiday, but this year due to celebrations for the Queen’s diamond jubilee that bank holiday has been moved. Unfortunately our friends were unaware of this when they booked their wedding a couple of years ago. If Monday was a bank holiday attending a wedding six hours drive from here on a Sunday would be fine, but as I’m a teacher and can’t take time off, we had to say we couldn’t come. The couple were very understanding (Mrs works in a school, so knows!) and we’re not the only couple who’ve not been able to come for the same reason.

Despite not going to the wedding I still wanted to give them a personalised wedding present. I decided to sew them a sampler, but didn’t think they’d want anything too traditional. I’m hoping that I’ve guessed the purple colour scheme correctly (it is the bride’s favourite colour and the invitations had a purple theme). Anyway, here it is…

It is safely in their house after Mr M delivered it when he went to the stag do. I can’t wait until they open it and let me know what they think.
